Oxford is a perfect venue for a family break or business trip. It is well situated - you can reach the Cotswolds from here in approximately half an hour, Stonehenge is just over an hour away, as is London but you can be in the grounds of magnificent Blenheim Palace in barely 15 minutes. Oxford and indeed many Oxfordshire hotels, are steeped in history. Magnificent buildings and historic places are abundant to behold.

Blenheim Palace at Woodstock is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. It is a wonderful day out for all the family and can easily be reached from surrounding Oxfordshire hotels either by taxi, or local bus. Included in the Palace tour is an exhibition about Sir Winston Churchill, near to the room where he was born. Sir Winston Churchill's grave is at a church nearby. There is also a state-of-the-art exhibition using the most up to date technology to tell the story of Blenheim Palace, dating back over 300 years, as might have been seen through the eyes of a servant. The Palace is set amongst 2,000 acres of beautiful gardens and woodlands, complete with amazing water fountains and a miniature train. There are regular entertainment fixtures including jousting and evening programmes. You will also find a Butterfly House, Lavender Gardens, the Marlborough Maze and a 'Blenheim Bygones' exhibition.

No visit to Oxfordshire would be complete without a visit to the City of Oxford. This City is steeped in tradition and history. Oxford Castle is at the very heart of Oxford's heritage. The castle dates back over ten Centuries, long before the Mound was built in 1071. In its past the Castle was once a prison, but now is a thriving hub of Oxfordshire hotels, restaurants and shops. As well as the Oxfordshire hotels offering restaurants and bars, there are now plenty of other places to eat and drink. Some offering outside seating areas and the ambience is fun, lively and yet quite austere.

Oxford Castle also offers an annual Ghost Fest. Oxford Castle is renowned as one of the Country's most haunted buildings, with plenty of spiritual secrets yet to be unlocked. The Ghost Fest is hosted by a famous Parapsychologist, Dr Ciaran O'Keefe and TV's Steve Parsons. On these tours visitors are encouraged to participate in a variety of ghost hunting experiments, using the latest ghost hunting equipment and technology.

Of course, because of its easy access, Oxford offers a perfect base outside of London for the traveller who prefers to be outside the hustle and bustle of the capital. London can be easily reached by train or bus from Oxford. These run frequently. A bus outside of peak times will take approximately one and half hours and the train will take an hour. Perfect if you are staying in one of the many surrounding Oxfordshire hotels, offering all the usual hotel services that you would expect from inner city hotels, such as bars and restaurants, whilst enjoying the tranquillity of a less busy environment.

If you want to go shopping whilst visiting Oxfordshire, Bicester Village is a well known retail outlet, offering a huge range of shops, from designer ladies, gentleman and children, to the high street names. If you are staying in Oxford, there is a regular bus service to the Village, taking approximately half an hour in duration. Otherwise if you are travelling by car it is well signposted along the M4 at Junction 9, then take the A41 for approximately two miles.

Annually the famous Oxford Boat Race takes place, on the River Thames, either the last Saturday in March or the first Saturday in April. This famous race has origins dating back to the nineteenth century, with it becoming an annual tradition after 1856. Oxford University wear their traditional dark blue clothes and Cambridge wears a lighter blue. It is a very busy event, with an estimated quarter of a million viewers observing the traditional rowing battle from the banks of the River Thames.

Whether it is museums, art galleries, restaurants or bars, Oxfordshire has a lot to offer the discerning traveller. A stay in an Oxfordshire hotel will offer you all the features of a London hotel, but within easy commuting distance of nearby tourist attractions.
